Grandpa goes to Girl's Camp

Girl's camp for Carrie and Allison and the rest of the Ward was only two nights because of an earlier Youth conference for the older girls.  I volunteered to represent the priesthood with Harold Thompson.  We arrived back from Delaware about 12:30 am on Wednesday, thankfully Josh had the Suburban all hooked up to my trailer so all I had to do was get my own things together and be at the Chapel at 8 am.

The girls were excited for camp, they look forward to a time of fun and self-expression without any guys around. We had excellent planning and leadership and very good food(Low Country Boil).  I helped minimally with meals.  I stayed in a great old cabin right on babbling Catherine Creek, no outside noise could get through that.  The only other responsibility I had was to start fires for the firesides each night, lots of dry wood made that easy.

Church parking lot, ready to leave.

Personal gear, the food went in a separate RV.

Upon arrival the girls got started on service projects.
It was hot enough, so moving rocks was just right.

On Day 2 they took a 5 mile hike.

Allison finished the hike first, she was ready to cool off in the Creek
by the time Carrie dragged in.

Hill Cumorah and Indian Echo Cavern

We went to the Hill Cumorah, to the top above the pageant stage. We saw the Temple, the Smith Home, and the Sacred Grove.  We had good seats for the pageant but it thundered and rained so the show did not go on. We did visit with the McCauley's from the Eagle Stake, who were in the cast, as they mingled before the rain started.

On Saturday we returned home with side trips to the Indian Echo Cavern and Lancaster, PA, with stops at outlet malls.

Visit to Delaware

We flew last Tuesday to visit the Catmulls and Sookhoos in Delaware. The flight was easy, but the humidity is very high in the East. We didn't do much but visit at first, then on Friday we went to Palmyra, NY to see the Church history sites there. We had a good time seeing things, but unfortunately the Friday night pageant was rained out.

Burger King and the Eagle Fountains

Levi has been wanting to go to Burger king to try out their playground.  I wanted to try a Whopper, my favorite in the past. So with that convergence of interests we went there yesterday. Excellent slides, Whopper better left to memory lane.

Last night we tried another old favorite for FHE treats, shaved ice at Heritage Park.  We hadn't done that either this year.

Weekend with Iverson/Bruce visitors

This weekend we had Grandma Diane Iverson and Jessica, Marcus and Cavin Bruce visit from
Utah. The girls were going on a Goldilocks bike ride on Saturday. They all did well, 20 miles plus the ride home.

Friday we all went to Parma, swimming and four wheeling.  We had a nice day. We have a new, used, electric motor for the row boat.

An Eagle summer day

We have had really hot days lately, but not so bad right now. Still in the mid 90's though so we work in the morning and swim in the afternoon. Unless we are kids, or child-like then we swim all day and don't work much..

Allison's horse bowl team placed second at the state 4-H competition, so they came over for a celebration party and sleep over. Allison was first in the individual competition.  The remaining team members were swimming this morning and taking underwater pictures of themselves.

Liz, Morgan and Levi were picking raspberries, Levi kept his bowl by the pool so he could snack while swimming.

Liz and Carrie were back inside by then, watching a recorded show while Liz folded clothes.

Cindy was working to catch up with garden weeds,
this year the garden is slow because of a cold spring.
Zucchini plants are the only things flourishing.

Fourth of July weekend

The Fourth fell on Thursday this year, so we have had a nice long weekend.  We cleaned around the pool for a party with the Iverson's Paramount friends. Trimming the willow was my main job, it grows like a weed and hangs almost to the ground. The party was fun, not that many kids but plenty of pool and pond fun.
Levi and Morgan with friends. Nothing like a hot tub in 97 degree weather.
After the party we went to fireworks in Meridian near the Speedway.  They were pretty good this year, hadn't seen fireworks up close for awhile.

On Friday we went to Parma with Josh and Levi, while Mom stayed home to wait for Meg to arrive from Rexberg.  Liz and Morgan dropped us and went to look at Bantam chickens near Parma. I used the field mower to cut some weed, then swam with Josh and Levi.  We had just enough water and root beer to make it to lunch at Apple Lucy's. The bantams came into the cafe so they wouldn't get too hot in the car. Luckily they didn't cheep too loud.

Root beer!

Friday evening we had our own driveway fireworks with Meg. Josh had stopped with us and bought some smoke bombs, tanks and one race car for Levi. Morgan had some laying hens too.  We had fun in the driveway, excited children make anything better. Our grand finale was a wonderful 19 ball salute Eric had brought to set off on our mission homecoming. It was saved for the Fourth and was an impressive salute.
